Lagos Beggars

Hi Guys,

I have seen and heard different tactics beggars employ in this Nigeria, especially in Lagos but today, i encountered one with a very surreal story that shook me.

As our bus was decending the bridge towards Obalende Bus stop, a man who had earlier walked past our bus came back to the window behind the passenger seat of the bus. He looked a tad bit scruffy, skinny with a few gray hairs in his beards; you could tell that he had a shave a couple of days back. He was wearing a worn out lace trouser and held a tee-shirt in his left hand.

His story was long but the summary of it all was that he is a victim of the 1993 June 12 crisis and had been in KiriKiri prison awaiting trial till this morning when they (I guess he wasn’t the only one) were taken to the High court (again i guess it has to be the High Court in Igbosere, that’s the closest *Shrug*) and asked to take their things and go…Now he isn’t from Lagos, but from somewhere in Osun State.

So bottom-line, he needs help hence the begging. Please bear in mind that this man looks like he is in his mid 30s, lets tag him at 35 which will mean that he was 12years old in 1993, the year of the Crisis. He was obviously a Minor and I know that minors were not arrested in connection to the crisis…I was still doing this maths when majority of the passengers shouted at him to go away with his lies.

The elderly man seated beside the driver then said that this our Kirikiri prisoner has been telling this same story at different bus stops for almost 7 years. Yes! You read that correctly! 7 YEARS!!!😱

Please whats the weirdest story you guys have heard from beggars, i really would love to read it.

Don’t forget to like and share.
